Have you ever wondered what it’s like to do boudoir photos with D. Phillips Photography?
Boudoir photography is an empowering way to bring out your inner confidence to help show you that you are amazing, awesome, and beautiful. Sometimes clients tell me how nervous they were going into their sessions, and then laugh as they say, “But I can’t believe how fun that actually was!” With each boudoir session, I make it my goal to bring out the inner badass in you and show you all facets of your identity that you feel like you may have lost along the way.
None of the women you see in my boudoir portfolio are models. These are real, everyday moms, wives, students… women who are balancing it all, yet took the time to finally invest in a beautiful boudoir experience for themselves.
A few years ago when I was working out of my home studio (before I moved to my current studio space in downtown Clarksville) I asked this beauty below if she’d be willing to share a full recount of what it was like to get boudoir photos done with D. Phillips Photography. The following is an unfiltered, uncensored, and honest account from a real client who had her boudoir photos taken by me.
"I’ve always wanted to do a boudoir photography session, but because I’ve had two children and my body clearly has imperfections, I felt as though my photos would never be as beautiful as some of the photos I had browsed through on Pinterest and always just pushed the idea out of my head. Valentine’s Day was quickly approaching and Danielle had shared a photo opportunity on a community page so I decided to get in touch with her.
From the beginning Danielle was never pushy and was always more than willing to answer any questions I had and make me feel completely comfortable. Booking the session was a little nerve wracking because it was something I had never done before, but I also felt excited to try something new that was out of my comfort zone. You only live once, right? After I had booked my session, Danielle sent an email containing tons of helpful information about what I should wear and how I should prepare for my shoot. She also sends a quiz to get to know you better and help in making you most comfortable during your session.
On the day of the actual shoot my stomach was in knots. All I could think about was how I had never done anything like this before and how I was completely clueless on posing and facial expressions for this type of shoot. Upon arriving to Danielle’s she was super friendly and welcoming which instantly made me feel a thousand times more comfortable. Danielle asked to see my outfits, went over some example photos with me, we talked about my hair and makeup and she also asked about me in general. I was offered something to drink and even a light snack (because who wants to look bloated during a boudoir shoot)! After my hair and makeup was finished, the hair and makeup artist left and it was just Danielle and me.
It was time to change into my first outfit and I started to feel a little nervous again. Danielle offers you a private bathroom where you can leave your outfits and change and also offered me a robe if I wanted it. I liked that she wanted to start with the outfit I was most comfortable in and “most covered” in and then work our way into the more revealing outfits! I quickly felt at ease when we started shooting. Danielle helps with EVERYTHING – posing, facial expressions, where to look, how to position your hands – when I say everything, I literally mean everything. I also appreciated that she let me sneak a peek at some of the photos while we were shooting because it was a complete confidence boost! She was very open to anything that I wanted to try and my ideas as well.
Not once did I feel pressured to do anything I wasn’t comfortable doing, nor did I ever feel judged by Danielle. Danielle is truly a pleasure to work with, she is a boudoir genius and knows how to capture you so that you look absolutely beautiful and feel comfortable in your own skin.
Doing a boudoir session was an eye opening experience for me. As women, we are so hard on ourselves and compare our bodies to those that we see in magazines and on TV. It was so nice to see myself the way my husband sees me, to feel one hundred percent proud of my body and to know I wasn’t going to get back a bunch of pictures that look nothing like me.
I recommend any woman who is even considering doing this to DO IT, you will not regret it and it truly is really a fun, empowering experience!"
